Why is Iron needed Long story short, supplementing iron is important, because it delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body. This a critical to keeping the cells alive as well removing carbon dioxide.  Other factors play a role in how well the body absorbs Iron, like are you getting enough vitamin C? There may be other factors as well that get over looked.

What foods provide sufficient Iron It's important to look a food first, however you can easily buy iron from the store as well. It is not a super expensive mineral and can be found anywhere for a fair price.

Best animal sources of iron:

  1. Shellfish

  2. grass-fed liver and organ meats

  3. grass-fed red meat

  4. pasture-raised poultry

  5. tuna

  6. sardines

  7. eggs

Best plant-based sources of iron:

  1. Spirulina

  2. legumes

  3. dark green leafy vegetables

  4. pistachios

  5. seeds

  6. quinoa

  7. broccoli

  8. dark chocolate
