Who should read can’t hurt me
Can’t hurt me, it’s an intense book, it reminds me of a child called it, which is a book I remember my younger brother recommending to me as a kid.
I don’t know many people I would reccomend can’t hurt me to, because the or the extreme content of the book is not suitable for most.
I grew up similar to David Goggins in the sense of an abusive household, racism, hopelessness and despair.
For survivors and hustlers who’ve navigated dark times similar to these this book will serve you well. Knowing that others have overcome similar situations.
The same can be said for those currently going through it.
This book and David Goggins story is alluring to people who want to be hard as sh_t. Without going through anything, but for those of us who have went through it this book hits differently.
Who is David Goggins
Can’t hurt me, is based on the life of David Goggins. Who survived tough times from Buffalo New York, and in the Southern Indiana town, called Brazil.
David Goggins is a Navy seal and and ultra marathoner.
He also have done podcasts with Tom Bilyeu and is by far one of my favorite fitness influencers.
Is he the worlds most determined man.
In terms of being the worlds most determined he definitely embodies the philosophy I have, which is:
Bravery over slavery
Exercise over excuses
Mind over matter
Diet over destiny
He pushed through all obstacles he’s face, and he’s face obstacles that broke him and faced them again and again u t he conquered them.
Can’t hurt me has chilling stories
From the stories of his fathers abuse not only towards him, but his mother and brother as well.
He eventually escaped with him mom and brother, and left Buffalo for Brazil.
But as a family they still suffered from the residue his fathers abuse left behind.
Eventually his mom would be engaged and her fiance would be murdered the day after Christmas.
David and his mom had a hard time recovering from it. David also suffered from learning disabilities and cheated his way through school.
And pretty much lived the stereotypical life of someone trying to fit in and stand out at the same time.
In can’t hurt me, Goggins also details the various moments of racism, he suffers from graffiti in a notebook, to words painted on his car.
He even had a gun pulled on him, but a racist man as well.
The amount of trauma before his military career is enough to cause PTSD within itself.
The military
Going into the military was a different story inspired by his grandfather’s service Goggins decided to join the air force.
Goggins struggled to pass the entry test to get in the military, and struggled with school barely graduated high school.
During his basic training he found out he held sickle cell anemia traits. So that was his excuse to bolt.
Discharged on medical grounds he became an exterminator, and ballooned up to 300lbs.
One day while showering after a night of work and binging on doughnuts and milkshakes he saw a navy seal special on TV.
When he went to the recruiters office he found out he had to weigh 191lbs so the race was on to drop the weight.
The 36th African American to graduate seal training
Eventually he passed seal training here are some videos from impact theory:
SUMMARY
I don’t want to divulge to much of his story. Buy can’t hurt me, and watch his podcasts to get the words straight from David.
Eventually he would go on to run multiple ultra marathons, and break the pull up world record multiple times.
