Social media and school has destroyed the ability to be a freethinker

The modern day Freethinker

In 2018, I promised to post more content about entrepreneurship, this is a sort of hybrid introduction post. I feel certain concepts need to be addressed in order to better understand my thought process behind being an entrepreneur. And freethinking is definitely on of those  things.

For example, there are so many sheep on social media and in society to day it makes it damn near impossible for people who would make great entrepreneurs to do so or even want to take up the task.

With 5’000 friends on Facebook, to some degree you would expect to see 5’000 individual thoughts intricately intertwined together on any platform. But instead you get a copy and paste, meme and clout chasing culture, which for many they’d be better off with no accounts, if they aren’t even willing to voice their true opinions.

I get that people chase likes, and want to be engaged at all costs, I know guys use it to hit on women, The Jones use it to keep up with the other Jones. But, an major opportunity exist for anyone with a passion, and willingness to voice their opinions and thoughts; and its easily squandered.

It can be disheartening looking at the same musicians spamming everyone with songs, and the would be entrepreneurs pitching their next pyramid scheme. But I wholeheartedly believe that there are people sitting on talents that need to be shared, and that they deserve to profit from.

In this post I will discuss the following:

  1. Validation and being wrong

  2. The ability to share your thoughts, opinions and problem solve.

  3. Your definition of life and fun vs society’s.

Being wrong and validation

Being and entrepreneur  is being determined to navigate the business world with authority and authorship of your destiny. How this applies to something as personal as Facebook is simple.

Every day for the sake of being like and being perceived as right people will agree with the masses, even though, they know it’s a fake news article being shared; or an option that they don’t truly share with those individuals.

In the work setting these same people do the same thing, when asked to work late or off the clock. Now some of these people teach their kids never to do that, while others teach their kids that it’s part of “the game”.

Entrepreneurs tend to if not at first become more opinionated, and seek to build a community of people who seek and value their services.

Sometimes friends and family will support you, sometimes it’s a random guy in Idaho who saw your ad and decided to purchase your product.

Some entrepreneurs go with the crowd and intentionally do so, in order to capitalize off of their sheep mentality, while others such as myself tend to go against the grain in order to build a collective community; of people entrenched in what it is in have to offer.

At the cost of getting Facebook likes people will say and doing anything , and it comes back to haunt them down the lines, or they unknowingly shoot themselves in the foot.

A few like on a entrepreneurial post, and a few sales beats 1’000 likes and no sales any day.

Freethinking and problem solving

How many times have you seen, people copy and paste the same memes, even though they could use the same picture and make a way funnier meme.

Especially when you know that person is genuinely funny, or people share fake new articles, and you know they genuinely think that is a real event occurring?

In both cases, the ability to form your own opinion and think for yourself is a critical tool missing.

How hard is it to open up google or CNN to verify if something is real or not?

Or open a app on your phone and make your own meme funnier than the one you just saw?

This follow the leader mindset is exactly how some if not all of these people were like in school, if its popular opinion they’re guaranteed to go with the crowd. Even when they know it’s wrong.

I don’t want these people around me or in my circle, because if the masses overrule common sense I can’t trust your word.

Your definition of fun versus society’s

So many people right now are borderline drug addicts and alcoholics because that’s the culture society promotes. We all know 30 somethings who can’t hold liquor but will gladly drink just to fit in at a social event.

People who don’t party, but feel obligated to go to work parties and friends events, because they are afraid to say no.

Again we see it in the school, work and social media setting.

In order to be an entrepreneur these are the things you have to be aware of and that you have to stop doing in order to be successful.

It’s nothing wrong with having your own opinion and your own calling.

It’s a sin and criminal to put your talents to the side to pursue someone else’s dreams or what they think you should be doing.

In summary

This was more of a rant than anything, I will be posting a few more articles on this site, before launching my full entrepreneurial blog. Where things will be more concise and organized.
