Worst foods to eat before a workout
During exercise you muscles, take priority in terms of where blood is sent. So blood flow to the stomach is decreased, while it’s important to eat before working out, eating the wrong thing, can ruin a workout.
Spicy foods can cause heartburn, and that is probably not what you want burning during a workout. Pastries desserts, fried and fatty foods, can all cause bloating, cramping, and diarrhea.
In other cases juices containing high fructose corn syrup are also something that you may want to avoid, especially if you have irritable bowel syndrome.
Alcohol impairs fat oxidation, and makes it harder to burn fat, and outside of being empty calories. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it dehydrates you during a time in which you want to be optimally hydrated.
Also among the worst foods to eat before a workout we have anything high in raffinose. Which in this case will be are cruciferous veggies and beans. These two foods can cause some people to become gassy during a workout out.
Examples of cruciferous veggies include, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli.
Dairy products are another culprit on this list as well. Dairy can lead to intestinal cramping, and for those who are lactose-intolerant, this is something you definitely want to avoid prior to working out.
Carbonated drinks, can cause flatulence, indigestion and discomfort as well.
What should I eat?
Things like rice paired with a protein is fine, or a protein paired with whole grain bread. Like a turkey sandwich for example.
