Why sleep is important for recovery

What is the purpose of sleep

First and foremost, your brain builds up metabolic waste, that it needs to get rid of. When this builds up in excess research has shown a link between neurological disorders.

During the time you spend resting the glymphatic system essentially removes all of the waste, when this task is properly completed you should wake up refreshed.

Poor rest effects memories

Another reason sleep is key to how we perform in and out of the gym, is because without sleep or proper sleep, its impossible to store long term memories and emotions .

Without rest or poor rest your memory suffers, which maybe why some peoples memory of sudden events are skewed.

Poor rest also leads to preventable diseases

If you sleep under 5 1/2 hour or less you predispose yourself to insulin insensitivity, diabetes and heart disease.

You also end up burning less from fat, and more muscle instead. Which of course is detrimental to you goals, if you are trying to lose weight.
