Will walking help me me lose weight

Walking has to be more than a passive activity

The bare minimum amount of time you should spend walking is around 200 minutes.

For weight loss you should spend 300 minutes. For me I split up cardio into a 30 min block in the morning and one in the evening.

So to reach 300 mins you would have to have 12 sessions of walking done in a week,  or 5 one hour sessions in a week.

I love to run, but I add in walking as a way to think and meditate on the events of the day.

Things have to be progressive

The reason I am a big advocate of wearing a proper heart rate monitor, is to ensure you’re not wasting time.

This will ensure that you can set a objective goal for yourself, such as saying you want to stay at 65% of your maximum heart rate, for the duration of your walk.

Outside of that factor, you can also determine the amount of calories you’ve burned as well.

In addition to walking progressively, you want to make sure you keep your diet in check, and that you’re tracking your food as well.

Walking vs running

Running is by far more effective, however it comes with a higher risk of injury.

I myself love to run, but I don’t recommend  starting off with running if you hate running, or hate cardio for that matter.

Strategically walking will yield comparable results, it my take a little more time. Running as mentioned above comes with a greater risk of injury, so it doesn’t make sense to run and hurt yourself.

If you hurt yourself trying to rush to results, you will only end up sitting out and losing whatever gains you had.

Just walk and build yourself up, you might have to walk an extra mile or two but it beats sitting out because of an injury.
