Remember your reason why
A valid reason beats motivation.
Being motivated is a temporal feeling, today you can have a ton of motivation, tomorrow itll be all gone.
Today you may say hey “I’m gonna read this book, clean and organize my house, etc.” Tomorrow for no reason what so ever you can decide, that nows not a good time; or you were a different person when you made those commitments.
Motivation doesn’t last. But a solid reason will.
An example
The motivated person:
I am going to lose weight this year!
Me:
Why?
The motivated person:
Because it’s the right thing to do!
Me:
Why?
The motivated person:
Because I watched a fitness video online, and I’m ready!
Me:
Why?
The motivated person:
Because… I don’t know!?
Me:
You get an all expense paid trip to Vegas free drinks, what would you do?
The motivated person:
Enjoy myself and start when I come back, I guess?
Summary.
When a person is motivated, their motives will change based off of the things that they deem, worthy of their attention. Where as a person with a reason is less likely to budge.
The reason person:
I’m ready to lose weight!
Me:
Why?
The reason person:
Because time.
Me:
Why?
The reason person:
Because I feel sluggish and tired all the time, and I hate they way I look.
Me:
Why?
The reason person:
Because I’m getting older and my family has a history or diabetes and heart disease and I don’t want that!
Me:
You get an all expense paid trip to Vegas l, would you go?
The reason person:
I would because I could use a break but I wouldn’t drink or eat crappy food.
Me:
Why?
The reason person:
Because I want to make changes if I can go to sin city and not fall of the bandwagon. Then I know I can do the same at home.
Summary
The person with a reason, may skip the trip all together, or they may plan around the things they know are pit falls and avoid them.
Reasons aren’t vague, or existential, they are usually personal and internal.
Motivation is not bad but I wouldn’t recommend solely relying on it.
